The fifth edition continues to provide a balance between theory and practice. Volume 2 expands on the material in Volume 1, covering the dynamics behaviour of marine vehicles, hydrodynamics, manoeuvrability and seakeeping. It concludes with some case studies of particular ship types and a discussion of maritime design. Both volumes feature the importance of considering the environment in design. Basic Ship Theory is an essential tool for undergraduates and national vocational students of naval architecture, maritime studies, ocean and offshore engineering, and will be of great assistance to practising marine engineers and naval architects. Author: E. C. Tupper DownloadEditor: Elsevier ISBN: 0080478719 Size: 16,31 MB Format: PDF, Kindle Read: 294 The fundamental characteristics of a ship’s design, and how they affect its behaviour at sea are of crucial importance to many people involved in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all marine vessels. Naval architects and those working in ship design need to understand these principles in depth. Marine engineers must likewise recognise the degree to which their activities are influenced and bounded by these principles. Finally, senior crew – both Ship’s Engineers and Commanders – need an understanding of the principles of naval architecture in order to properly fulfil their duties. This book offers a clear and concise introduction to the subject and is of great value to both students and practising professionals in all of the above fields. * Covers introductory level courses in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering * Updated to cover key developments including double-hulled tankers * Fully revised fourth edition accompanied by exercises and worked solutions for the first time ![]() Ship Design For Efficiency And Economy
Author: Volker Bertram DownloadEditor: Elsevier ISBN: 9780080517100 Size: 20,61 MB Format: PDF, Kindle Read: 724 The previous edition of Ship Design for Efficiency and Economy was published as a Butterworth's marine engineering title. It has now been completely revised and updated by Schneekluth and Bertram. This book gives advice to students and naval architects on how to design ships - in particular with regard to hull design. The previous edition of this book was published in 1987. Since then, there have been numerous important developments in this area and the new additions to this book reflect these changes. Chapter 3 has been completely rewritten with added information on methodology of optimization, optimization shells and concept exploration methods. There is also a new sub-chapter on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for ship-hull design. Plus, a new method to predict ship resistance based on the evaluation of modern ship hull design will be detailed. The emphasis of the this book is on design for operational economy. The material is directly usable not only in practice, in the design office and by shipowners, but also by students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Author: D.G.M. Watson DownloadEditor: Elsevier ISBN: 9780080440545 Size: 17,65 MB Format: PDF, ePub, Docs Read: 305 The ever-growing demand for commercial activities at sea has meant that ships are rapidly developing and that the rules governing their construction and operation are changing. Practical Ship Design records these changes, their outcomes and the reasoning behind them. It deals with every aspect of ship design and handles a wide range of both merchant ships and naval ships with authority. It provides coverage of cargo ships and passenger ships, tugs, dredgers and other service craft. It also includes concept design, detail design, structural design, hydrodynamics design, the effect of regulations, the preparation of specifications and matters of costs and economics. Drawing on the author's extensive practical experience, Practical Ship Design is likely to interest everybody involved in the design, construction, repair and operation of ships. Students and the most experienced professionals will all benefit from the book's vast store of design data and its conclusions and recommendations. Managing Ship Safety
Author: Chengi Kuo DownloadEditor: ISBN: Size: 15,87 MB Format: PDF, ePub, Mobi Read: 344 The safety of shipping and other maritime activities has traditionally been treated by what is called the prescriptive approach, whereby the authorities draw up the rules and regulations and the users obey them without question. This approach is most applicable to engineering issues but safety involvers many other factors. Ship safety very much involves management and operations, underpinned by human factors such as attitude and behaviour. To achieve high standards, many industries, such as chemical and offshore, have adopted the goal-setting approach which is based on the safety case concept. This text explains the basic principles and elements of the safety case concept, using practical examples to illustrate their application. It also shows how these safety elements relate to the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) and Formal Safety Application (FSA).
Author : R. B. Zubaly Applied Naval Architecture is intended for undergraduate students of many of the disciplines in maritime affairs, including marine engineering, marine transportation, nautical science, shipbuilding or ship production (shipyard apprentice schools), marine electrical engineering, meteorology, and oceanography. It could be used as an introduction to naval architecture for technical personnel of all types already employed in shipyards, and for licensed officers as a general reference and as preparation for license upgrading examinations. In short, its purpose is to describe what a naval architect does, and how he or she does it, to all students and practitioners involved in the business of merchant ships and shipping, except for professional naval architects themselves. Students preparing for a degree in naval architecture would also find the book useful as an introduction to their profession.ISBN : 0870334751 Genre : Transportation File Size : 90.19 MB Format : PDF Download : 423 Read : 656 ![]() Comments are closed.
